Tuesday’s Broccoli Soup

Another week has passed.

  • In a never-ending (or is it?) race to find more oil, Russia is going to drill in the Arctic Ocean. I have no words for it.
  • Continuing from last week’s TBS, this report (PDF) deals with a survey of 173 bottled water products and states that 18% fail to list their source, 32% do not disclose any information about the treatment or purity of their water, and 13% even provide “water quality” reports that contain no testing results. Given that 44% of bottled water is believed to be sourced from the tap, they conclude that the best water to drink (if you want to actually know what it is you’re drinking) is filtered tap water.
  • WasteI was simply amazed when I saw this: There is a factory that uses almost 4 million kgs of parts and materials every month, yet produces just 7 kg of waste per month. Almost unbelievable. To take this to perspective: The average American produces 2 kg of waste per day (a quarter of that is food…)! That’s 60 kg of garbage every month. Insane.

Let’s end with an ‘awwwww’ moment: Baby gorilla’s first steps
